About Joe

A true veteran of motor sports and mass populations events, Joseph R. Mattioli, III, has been through every up and down of auto racing.  With a career spanning over forty years of track ownership, management, marketing and promotions, Mattioli knows every aspect of the motor sports business.  As President and COO of Pocono Raceway, he successfully navigated two wars, five recessions, an oil crisis, a hurricane, and two sanctioning body boycotts.

Mattioli’s tenure with Pocono Raceway included the toughest times in the industry, but during that time, he guided Pocono in achieving sellout attendance and full sponsorship, directing and marketed successful NASCAR, IndyCar, Sports Car and Motorcycle events, as well as fairs, concerts and festivals.

Some of Mattioli’s more notable accomplishments include launching the late Tim Richmond’s NASCAR career, producing TV specials for ESPN, Speed and NBC, providing event management for the D.C. Grand Prix, providing consulting services for national firms including Pepsi and MBNA, serving as a founder of the Music City Motorsports Institute and presenting Nashville’s DukeFest to some 90,000 Dukes of Hazzard fans.

Mattioli’s mentor, H. A. Humpy Wheeler (member of 13 halls of fame including the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and winner of over 30 national awards for racing promotion) had this to say about Mattioli:

"Joe Mattioli brings a rich tapestry of motorsports experience to the table from operating speedways to procuring sponsorships.  He has done it all and now others can benefit from his vast experience."
